Khour

Khour is an old city in southern part of Fars provice. The city is 367 Km away from Shiraz and is adjacent to Lar.
The population of khour is 7000 and speaks khoury dialect which is called Achomi.
The weather in Khour is mostly hot and dry and there is little farming due to inadequate rainfall.
The historical remains in Khour suggests that the city existed before coming of Islam to Iran and a group of Zoroastrians lived in the northern part of the city then.
Most of the immigration to the city took place during Safavid dynasty and after. It was also a stopover for trades men traveling between Lar and Bandar Abbas which added to the population.
There are a lot of palm trees in Khour so most of the handicrafts like baskets, ventilator and sweep are made of palm leaves.
Most of the men in Khour are either self-employed or employees in Gulf countries like United Arab Emirates, Qatar, etc. Women usually work at home and their important skills are making homemade bread, local dishes and different kinds of dairy products.
The people in Khour are very sympathetic to each other and most of them share moments of happiness like weddings, and sorrows. They also celebrate the Feats of Ramadan and Slaughter with great joy.
